The National Bridges Group is a working group of the Engineering Board.
The Bridges Group is also the focal point of a larger network of local authority bridge owners through Area Bridge Groups. These are groups which meet within a region and whose membership is open to all local authority bridge owners, or their representatives.
The Group’s key roles are to consider all issues associated with design, management and maintenance of highway bridges and other structures, to promote knowledge sharing, benchmarking and sound engineering best practice for all highway structures, to provide a national collective “voice” to represent local authority bridge owners in liaison with national bodies such as National Highways, Network Rail and the Canal and River Trust, and to provide input to research and development projects.
The group's full terms of reference can be found here.
