ADEPT brings smart and innovative thinking in local highways to Highways UK
Responding to feedback since its launch in 2015, Highways UK on 7-8 November 2018 is making big strides to represent the whole industry, not just the strategic road network and Highways England. This is fitting for our current times, given the recent:
- Transport Select Committee inquiry into funding and governance of local roads
- Future Mobility strategy call for evidence, with priorities for data-sharing and a regulatory framework fit for the 21st century
- DFT Local Transport Data Discovery report publication, in particular recommendation 5 to “Improve collaboration between local authorities, Highways England and the private sector.”
ADEPT (with sponsorship from Ringway) is co-ordinating content for the Local Authority Hub, across both days, at stand D10. We are using this dedicated space to showcase the best of place-based innovation and technology in local authorities across the country. This includes external speakers, finalists from the ADEPT President’s Annual Awards, and key updates from ADEPT members and board /group chairs including Mark Corbin (National Traffic Managers Forum), Mark Stevens (Engineering Board) and Ken Harrison (Midlands Board).
Other hubs with relevant local content include:
- The English Regions Hub with the latest on the Sub-national Transport Board, the Major Road Network, and key content from Transport for the North, Midlands Connect, England’s Economic Heartland and Transport for the South East.
- The Cities Hub (stand C20)
- The Materials and Maintenance Dome – which includes a presentation from Steve Berry on the ‘pothole predicament’ guide you contributed to
All content across Highways UK is accessible free of charge for the first time this year, but registration is required.
The keynote Local Authority session is on 8th November between 9:30am – 10:30am in the main Jacob’s theatre. Nigel Riglar, ADEPT 1st VP is representing ADEPT, along with George Lee, Chief Executive of HTMA, Matthew Lugg, President of CIHT and John Lamb, President of the Local Government Technical Advisers Group (LGTAG). The plenary will explore the high-level challenges facing local authorities as we future-proof local authority roads.
Join us back on the ADEPT Local Authority Hub after this session to enjoy bacon butties and tea/coffee, whilst you network with members, speakers and other delegates.
Highways UK takes place on 7 & 8 November 2018 at the NEC, Birmingham. The full programme, floor plan and ticket registration is available on the HighwaysUK website here.
