Housing White Paper - ADEPT's initial comments
Chair of ADEPT’s Planning, Housing and Regeneration Board, Peter Geraghty, said: “The housing crisis is one of the most pressing challenges faced by the UK so ADEPT welcomes the Government’s white paper. For ADEPT members, place-making is at the heart of the housing challenge. Creating the necessary social and physical infrastructure is about more than just numbers, it’s about creating communities that can thrive and prosper.
“The Association believes that local authorities working in partnership are best placed to enable the creation of successful local communities and so welcomes the Government’s recognition of the importance of local leadership. ADEPT strongly supports the proposal for higher fees and new capacity funding to develop planning departments, alongside simplified plan-making and more funding for infrastructure as it recognises the key role planning and plan-making play in achieving sustainable development.
“Giving communities a stronger voice in the design of new housing to drive up the quality and character of new development is important in engaging communities, enabling them to play a part in shaping the places whey they live.”
