Value of Trees - project closure report published
The final project closure report for the Value of Trees Toolkit has been published, marking the conclusion of this important project.
Commissioned by ADEPT and funded by the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, the Value of Trees project aimed to provide local authorities with guidance on tree planting to support climate change mitigation, resilience building and nature recovery.
Led by Leicestershire County Council in collaboration with Treeconomics, the project developed a comprehensive toolkit comprising four key components: a species selection guide, a valuation matrix, a design guide and life cycle costing information.
Published in January 2023, the toolkit provides local authorities with specific guidance on tree planting, supporting them to plan for the landscape of the future. It provides information on species selection and latest guidance on tree planting and maintenance and is aimed at local authorities and third party organisations, such as developers.
A project closure report has now been published, which outlines the objectives, performance, key deliverables and lessons learned. The report also provides details of a pilot implementation of the toolkit at a residential development in Leicestershire.
The project has been widely successful and well received across the sector, sparking significant interest from other local authorities – it represents a significant step forward in supporting sustainable tree planting practices across the UK.
