Blueprint Coalition - how can devolution deliver on environmental ambition?
Webinar event - how can devolution deliver on environmental ambition?
The Blueprint Coalition - an influential group of local government organisations, environmental groups and research institutions - hosted a webinar on 11th September 2024, focused on how to ensure that the new government’s devolution plans are aligned with environmental outcomes.
We heard from Peter Moore (co-chair of the Blueprint Coalition), Cllr Tom Ross the Green City Lead for Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Cllr Marisa Heath from Surrey County Council, Christopher Hammond, Chief Executive of UK100 and Victoria Marsom, Head of the England Team at Friends of the Earth.
A wide ranging discussion and Q&A, chaired by Louise Marix-Evans, covered the complexity of the challenges facing local government at all levels to deliver on climate and nature alongside other demands like housing targets, the merits of a statutory duty for sustainable local growth, and how larger combined authorities can be more effective but must not lose sight of genuine community involvement.
