Sustainable Growth Board - focus on sustainable economic growth
ADEPT’s Manifesto for Stronger Places sets out a number of immediate priorities for any new government including one to reform the planning system to enable local areas to drive sustainable growth at the level of functional economic geographies, with powers over industrial strategy, skills and labour market planning, strategic transport, and energy infrastructure.
The next meeting of the Sustainable Growth Board – 1530-1700 on Weds 10 April – will focus on sustainable economic growth. The delivery landscape is changing – LEPs will no longer be centrally funded, there are more devolution deals and calls from some quarters for councils to be given statutory powers over economic development – whilst councils are working to deliver a strong environment alongside a strong economy. We have invited speakers from the UK Infrastructure Bank, Department for Business & Trade and think tank Localis to give us their thoughts and stimulate discussion around the meeting theme.
