ADEPT statement on NPPF consultation
Angela Jones, President of ADEPT, said:
“As the national voice of local authority place directors and their teams, ADEPT welcomes the publication of the consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and associated policies. We are ready to work closely with government to ensure the final framework is robust, practical and capable of delivering genuinely sustainable communities across the country.
“Our members are responsible for some of the most essential local services, including highways, waste, recycling and planning and so we recognise both the scale and challenges the government is seeking to address, and the need for a planning system that is responsive, resilient and grounded in local delivery.
“We urge government to reconsider the proposed exemption of small sites from Biodiversity Net Gain requirements. Smaller developments, taken together, can have a significant cumulative impact on local ecosystems. Retaining BNG obligations for these sites is essential to support nature recovery, provide certainty for local authorities and maintain confidence in the emerging BNG market.”
